Update: Visit to Asa Wright Nature Centre - Trinidad
Asa Wright Nature Centre
About 8 miles north of Arima is the Asa Wright Nature Centre, an old plantation house overlooking the tropical rain forest of the Northern Range, and a haven for bird lovers. Covering an area of several hundred acres, there is a network of trails to the different habitats, or you can enjoy a pleasant afternoon on the verandah, watching the birds which come to the feeders. The rangers are very knowedgeable and point out the many different varieties of birds as well and other wildlife. With a number of lodges for overnight guests, this makes a very relaxing change from working in the boat yard!

Watching the hummingbirds through binoculars, it is easy to forget just how small they really are. They also move very fast!

For the avid bird-watchers among you, here is the full list of the varieties that we spotted during our visit. Some of these are in the small book which I took with me, "Birds of Trinidad and Tobago" by Richard ffrench. Others were identified for me by the guide or by experienced bird-watchers.
For more information, I recommend the DVDs and CDs produced by www.birdguides.com - I wish I had them here!
