WARNING : The controversy sourrounding many 'alternative' treatments could turn you into a cynic, a champion, or worse, a confused person. There are contradictory opionions on most treatments for cancer, mainstream and other. It can be hard to tread your path through all of this, but perserverance furthers.

Holistic & Complementary Therapies
I tend to view all these therapies as complementary, although some people are using these as alternatives to conventional treatment

  • Acupuncture
  • Applied Kinesiology
  • Bach Flower Remedies
  • Enemas Coffee enemas are an essentail part of the Gerson Therapy, and are widely recommended as a means of detoxifying and cleansing.
  • Essiac
  • read an extract from Richard Walter's book "Options: the Alternative Cancer Therapy book" on Essiac
  • ESSIAC - Cancer Support International although the page gives the impression that this is a dedicated support organisation, actually its more of a shop window for Essiac. Nevertheless, the Essiac is good and the prices seem fair.
  • Flaxseed oil. As recommended by Dr Johanna Budwig and others. Flaxseed oil is a wonderful source of Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs). For more info than you ever wanted about flax, go to the Flax Council of Canada website
  • Herbs

  • I have not done an exhaustive search for herbal information online, but here are some links to get you started

Hulda Clark - a Cure for All Cancers? Whilst I think that the presentation of her 'cures' is somewhat lacking in follow-through, I do think that her work on parasites and environmental toxins is valuable. The entire book is available online here

However, the other side of the coin is presented at Steve Dunn's Cancer Guide site.

The Hypericum Home Page. This herb, also known as St John's Wort, has so many uses. As an oil I found it invaluable after radiotherapy. It is widely used as an anti-depressant, as as a homepathic remedy it is useful for pain and nerve damage

    Gerson Therapy the official site

Kombucha. This drink is brewed using a culture. It is reputed to be very helpful at building your immune system and maintaining a balanced metabolism

    Kombucha Home Page

The Kombucha Journal in English by Günther W. Frank

    http://www.kombucha.org.uk/

Progesterone. Once you start reading about hormones you realise how little most of us know about them. Regardless of menopausal status, there is a high possibility that if you have breast cancer, your hormones are imbalanced, and supplementation with natural progesterone cream could be useful.

    Pro-Gest

    Natural Progesterone and Women's Health

    Natural Health Ministry Ltd notworking

Dr John Lee is the pioneer of using natural progesterone

  • Reiki - I have been attuned to Reiki II. I found it to be immensely helpful in my recovery. It is great for relieving stress and for revitalising you. See the following pages for more information:
  • Electroherbalism Homepage
  • Sound Therapy - Bio-Acoustics This is one of the alternative therapies that I tried. It was really interesting!
  • Yoga There are many sites about yoga, but if you are not familiar with this discipline, you can read about the philosphy of yoga here
  • yoga is now being combined with Pilates - has anybody tried this? I'd like some feedback on it.
  • More places to visit for holistic and alternative therapy information

  • Alternative Medicine Digest - self procalimed as the internet's largest database of alternative medical information
  • Hallelujah Acres Home Page teaching the world that "you don't have to be sick!" - not to everyone's taste perhaps, but for those who want God on their side, this has much to offer.
  • Health World Online this is a place you could spend all day in. Prevention, treatment options, thought provoking articles
  • Life Extension Foundation - information on disease specific protocols and more
  • Laetrile Vitamin B17 (Amygdalin)
  • Preventorium - a resource centre for Alternative Cancer Therapies
  • Royal Rife - an extraordinary man ahead of his time?
  • Dr Royal Rife - RifeBare Plasma Wave Technology
  • Royal Rife Research Society - The Cancer Cure That Worked
  • Health Centre index of UK healthcare resources on the WWW
  • An excellent new site has appeared since I did a search for escharotic salves several months ago. It is quite comprehensive and a must-read when considering this approach. Ingrid Naimin, Ph.D, is the author of a book titled, Cancer Salves: A Botanical Approach to treatment. The site appears to explore in detail the issues covered in the book
  • Fighting Cancer Jonathan Chamberlain's page for information and support
  • NCAM - National Center for Complemetary and Alternative Medicine
  • Cancer Chronicles by Ralph Moss.
  • Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients This excellent publication has a great deal of considered opinion available online for your review, touching many of the topics of concern to us. This is the old site for archives from 2001. Their new site is here
  • InteliHealth - Hharvard Medical School's Consumer Health Information:
  • Natural alternative therapies for Cancer
  • Burzynski Research Institute brain tumor clinical trials gene therapy antineoplastons home page
  • Choices in Healing a book by Michael Lerner
  • Commonweal Cancer Help Program staff include Michael Lerner whose book "Choices in Healing" used to be available online - maybe it still is, but I haven't got the link here anymore.
  • Nutrition & Diet
Vegan , Vegetarian & Organic foods Nutrition

    Alternative Therapies Lifestyle & Environment
I'm in the process of re-organising this part. Currently the alternatives can be found towards the end of the Holistic and Complementary section above.
One place you should definitely visit if you are interested in Alternatives is the Breastcancerchoices.org site, which was established by members of the Amazon Alternative Therapies for Breast Cancer mailing list. For more research, see Ann Fonfa's annieappleseed project site

There are lifestyle factors involved in Nutrition and Diet, of course. What I intend to include here is  some more pointers to other factors, such as exercise, together with how to avoid environmental toxins, and information about how the incidence of breast cancer may be linked to our environment
